We stayed here on a recent backpacking trip around Sri Lanka. The hotel is currently undergoing renovations so wasn't accepting many bookings and was a bit of a mess. However, for this reason we negotiated the price and we can't fault the room for what we paid. It was a very basic room with thin mattresses - and a basic bathroom - but ultimately everything worked the electricity, mosquito net etc. There was no hot water but this is fine after a long day in the hot sun.
The real positive here was that the staff were indeed very friendly and helpful. But nothing more. But the food is a bit overpriced and targeted at westerners. For me, this was a shame. I would have liked to have seen some cheaper 'local' Sri Lankan food so we could choose between paying less, or more for western food. As it is, you're somewhat forced to pay for western food with a limited choice of Sri Lankan food.
I recommend walking down the beach to Palm Tree Resort for food. They shouldn't. The wifi isn't great like a lot of Sri Lanka and it is People rate Fernando's as being one of the better places to eat in Upaveli beach - I think this is just because it is the 'best of a bad bunch'. Friendly staff helped us in many ways whith travel arrangements.
The room was simple, bathroom needed a repair, but it was value for money. Fernandos bar has nice atmosphere and delicious in real pizza oven baked pizzas. Nice place to stay on Uppevelli, directly on the beach, which is clean and very relaxing.
Rooms are with a sea view, bathrooms are little bit old, but location is great. Fernandos bar has a good menu, also home made pizza, soft drinks, also monkey lives here The price is right and we have a great time in Aqua Hotel. Staying there in november Very roud and ugly management,no wellcome for guest,while having meals closing the restaurant,10pm shut down wifi, Food is not up to the standerd,than the guest they concern about money,mineral water issuing afte paying money only, Manegement do not know how to speek the guest, Driver accomodation is like a cow shed,not cleean ,dirty bath rooms, Ugliest hotel i ever been for last four years of my service in tourism industry I advise all the tour guids and shaufer guid to not direct guest to this place,.
